The British Lung Foundation estimate that more than 2,000 people are diagnosed with Mesothelioma each year in the UK alone. It is believed that someone dies every 5 hours due to exposure to asbestos fibres.
A report called ‘Projection of mesothelioma mortality in Great Britain’ which was created for the HSE estimated that there will be around 91,000 deaths in the UK by 2050 as a direct result of people being exposed to asbestos.
Despite the update in the asbestos regulations which came into force in 2012, asbestos remains the single greatest cause of UK work-related deaths.
If your non-domestic property was built before 2000 and you do not have an asbestos management plan in place you may be exposing yourself and your employees up to a very dangerous workplace.
