A competent person is defined on the HSE website as:
‘A competent person is someone who has sufficient training and experience or knowledge and other qualities that allow them to assist you properly. The level of competence required will depend on the complexity of the situation and the particular help you need.’
This is where OJ Health and Safety come in. The company’s director, Neil Denning, has a whole host of qualifications and is registered on the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR). This means he can act as an outsourced competent person for any organisation.
This also has ramifications for companies trying to get CHAS accredited. When bidding for contracts on often cited requirement is that they have to be CHAS Accredited. CHAS is a nationally recognised qualification which demonstrates a contractor can work to certain health & safety standards. One of the requirements to reach CHAS accreditation is have a registered competent person. OJ Health and Safety can act as this competent person, enabling you to achieve CHAS accreditation.
